Another Spring Day!

Last night was cool again (about 40 degrees, I think). But today was another glorious spring day. On the way to the train this morning I took some photos of some more crocuses still out, and some more daffodils. But no time for drawing them. Since I was taking the train again finally, I did get to do a little bit of drawing on the train, which I have posted on my Flickr photostream. Well, why don't I put one of them up here--I really liked the contrast of this one lady's fancy clothes and pumps with the back pack she was carrying!

Getting ready to go into another busy weekend! I do hope to do a daffodil painting for a good friend who helped me out with something this week, so I hope I can fit that in!

Daffodils by the Dozens!

I think you could now say that spring has really sprung! Even though it went back down to the 30's last night, it got up to 58 today and it was a beautiful, bright sun-shiny day, all day long. So I was glad I could get out and do a quick 15 minute sketch at a park just before a meeting out of the office I had to go to. I took some photos of the lovely daffodils there, too. The closeup shows the two that I drew, both coming from one bulb (I think).

20 degrees cooler today!

Yesterday was so pretty and nice! 81 degrees and lots of people out in the park. Today I would have gone out, but had to leave the office early, so I stayed in. Turns out it was 20 degrees cooler anyway (61). Oh well. So, no drawing today. Maybe tomorrow! Busy tonight, too!

A Real Spring Day!

I had to drive in again today, and I will tomorrow and the next day. So I might get to take the train Friday, but that means no Subway Sketches until then! But, wonder of wonders, I saw my first blooming daffodils in Philadelphia on Sunday! I haven't seen any yet in my neighborhood in the suburbs, but that's probably only because I haven't walked to the train since last week!

I was itching to get out today at lunchtime to go looking for flowers, and I did so, and found plenty of daffodils in one of the main public squares. So I sat down on the grass and drew some. I didn't have any colors with me, so I just did it in pencil. Since they looked too delicate, and there wasn't enough contrast with the leaves, I decided I should fill the ground in to have the blooms stand out. I think it worked pretty well, but this scan is pretty lousy as it doesn't show the detail in the flowers at all (too much contrast for the scanner, I guess).

These were mainly bowed down, but I thought they made an interesting grouping.

I hope to do more later in the week.

Saturday Painting

I have been waiting and waiting for the spring flowers to come (something more than just the crocuses), but they haven't made it yet. Maybe this week! Anyway, this past weekend I headed south to my mother's and found these rugged daffodils in her backyard. They are quite interesting to me since they are not at all regular--the petals sort of go every which way and are different sizes--not your picture postcard variety!

I drew these in pencil sitting in a beach chair and then went in a got my watercolors and brought them right out and painted this while sitting outside, too. The best way to do it! (I think)

Saturday drawing & painting

Well yesterday I said I would post my multiple-EDM drawing next week, but I finished it this morning and decided to take a picture of it with my camera, instead of waiting until Monday to scan it at work. So here is:

Soap Dispenser and EDM #'s 7, 24, 64, 84, 94, 96, 106 & 110

The EDM numbers refer to:

#7: bottle from your kitchen, #24: piece of fruit (banana), #34: sink, #84: bread, #94: spoon, #96: something sweet: chocolate bar; #106: something sour: lemon, #111: bowl.

The soap dispenser also enabled the drawing to be uploaded to the Flickr "Soap" group pool!

Now today I went to my mom's, and it being about 100 miles further south, there were some flowers to draw! I can't load them on to the computer here, but I did do a little watercolor (my first in ages!) of a clump of daffodils. I am also a member of the Botanical Art group on Yahoo and Flickr, so I will put up my little painting there, too, as soon as I am able.

Friday Night

My son has been sick this week and is still recovering, although he did go back to school today. The meal I made for him Wednesday night was the genesis of a drawing I did incorprating quite a few EDM challenges (illustrated here). After he went to bed tonight I started another drawing incorporating at least four more challenges. I will post that one some time next week. I also started a color drawing this evening, but that won't be done until next week, either. This weekend will be busy, just like all the others! Post Cards, too??

A very good friend of mine has suggested that I offer postcards for sale, too, saying more people would want them than a custom book. I think she is probably right! So, with her help, I am looking into postcard publishing possibilities (thanks, Christine!!). I think I will go ahead and offer them in my Etsy shop and see if I get any takers . . .
