The French Bustle -- EDM #40 and Artwords #54

I had fun with this one! It started with thinking about the Artwords topic of the week, "bustle." This word could be taken several ways, an individual bustling around, being very busy, or a whole group of people all in a bustle, like on a subway platform at rush hour, or a dress bustle! Well, I chose the simplest one, and went looking for a Victorian costume. But none of the drawings or photographs I found were very appealing to me, then I went back to the Google list and saw some really nice wedding dresses with bustles, and thought "these are PERFECT!" So here is a wonderful French bustle from The Bridal Studio at Leanna.com ( http://www.leanna.com/Bridal/ ).

I did this with a Pitt pen, and then, in order to best show off the white satin material, decided just to use a black wash to color it in. I had a lot of fun and think it turned out pretty well, although the scan does not pick up the lightest parts of the washes. And then, this was just right for one of the EDM challenges I haven't done--"Draw something with folds."

Hi Kathleen! I commented on this at Flickr too but just wanted to add that it would look fantastic on a card with wishes for a bride-to-be or even as a bridal shower invite, have you put it up yet?

Take care and have a wonderful holiday weekend!

P.S. - got a bit of exciting news yesterday and will post it on my mixed media blog soon along with the rest of my trip stuff :) Gosh it's been so hard keeping up with everything, I may have to lose some sleep to catch up!! lol

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, both Laura and Susan!
Laura, I haven't made it into a card yet, but now with your encouragement I will do so. Can't wait for your exciting news! But which blog do I look in?
Hope you both have a wonderful weekend, too. My oldest son graduates from high school tomorrow!

Hi Kathleen! Just popped in to see if you have any new sketches posted but I see you've been extra busy this past weekend! We had grad open houses here too all weekend - how did it go? You must be so proud of him, such a wonderful moment in time for both of you :)

Oh by the way, my bit of news is on http://laurataylormark.blogspot.com/

This looks really great! Thanks for your comments on my calendar. I am curious though about Explore and how you found it. I am a newb and not familiar with Explore.

Hi Brian,

Thansk for your kind comment!

Regarding Explore, right at the top of the Flickr page there is a link that says "Explore." I go to it several times a day because I often come into Flickr through "My Yahoo" (I have a Yahoo email account I use everyday) and there is a link right there to Explore, then I sign into Flickr from the Explore page.

Somehow Flickr picks what they consider "interesting" pictures, based on some esoteric formula that I don't understand anything about! Anyway, great job making it into Explore!
